Services at halls of residence

Repairs

All faults and defects discovered must be reported using the electronic ledger of faults and defects (giving agreement to the rectification of the given fault or defect in the absence of the occupant, where appropriate). The most common faults and defects will generally be rectified by Halls of Residence and Refectories staff within a week.

Should the occupant consider the rectification of a given fault or defect to be inadequate, he or she will make a complaint to the block manager. Proceed in the same manner in the case of any violation of any of the rules given above.

Non-functional fluorescent tubes will be replaced by Halls of Residence and Refectories staff or external companies on the basis of an entry in the electronic ledger of faults and defects. Non-functional lightbulbs will be replaced by students themselves. You may collect a new lightbulb after presenting your student pass at the block gatehouse.

Changing the bed linen

A bed-linen changing service is provided for all people accommodated at halls of residence. This service is provided at fourteen-day intervals at the PPV halls of residence by the central bedding store.

This service is provided free of charge.

Study, television room

Keys to these rooms are available at gatehouses following presentation of a student pass. The person collecting these keys is responsible for the study being used for the purpose for which it is designed and is also responsible for any damage.

Sports room

There are table-tennis tables at halls of residence. Keys to these rooms are available from gatehouses following the presentation of a student pass. The person collecting the keys is responsible for the room being used for the purpose for which it is designed and is also responsible for any damage.

This service is provided free of charge.

Premises in which gyms have been established are leased to private entities at the Purkyně and List halls of residence. A fee is charged for the services provided here.

The Sports Activities Centre (CESA) offers extensive sports activities at Brno University of Technology halls of residence. CESA offers a gym, indoor cycling, aerobic training, aerobics, a boulder centre, marital arts and massages at the PPV halls site and volleyball, basketball and floorball at the Purkyně halls of residence site. Bicycle shed

Premises for storing bicycles are provided at all halls of residence – KPPV: A04 and A05, Purkyně: B02 and B07, Kounicova: C03. Bicycles stored here are protected against theft in the usual way. The bicycle shed is locked – students can collect keys from the gatehouse of the given block after presenting a student pass.

This service is provided free of charge.

Sports equipment (bicycles, skis, etc.) can be kept in rooms only following the submission of the written agreement of all people sharing the room to the manager. A fee of 150 CZK a month is charged for this service.

Cleaning

Cleaning at halls of residence is performed by the staff of the halls of residence or by supplier companies. All common premises (corridors, kitchenettes, stairways, entry halls) and places where common facilities and social facilities (washrooms and toilets) are found are cleaned.

This service is provided free of charge. You may address any complaints relating to the quality of the cleaning performed to the pertinent manager.

Common kitchenette

Kitchenettes are located on all floors of accommodation blocks and serve the students living there for the preparation of simple foods. Accommodated persons are obliged to clean the kitchenette after them before leaving it.

This service is provided free of charge.

All defects and shortcomings can be reported using the electronic ledger of faults and defects. Emergency situations must be reported to the gatehouse immediately (water leaks, damaged electrics).

Special kitchenettes

The first special kitchenette can be found on the fourth floor of block A05 at the PPV halls of residence. Kitchenette facilities: stainless-steel double sink, MW oven, two convection ovens.

These facilities enable the preparation of more complicated dishes for larger groups of students.

The key to the kitchenette is available from the gatehouse of the pertinent block following presentation of a student pass. The person collecting the keys is responsible for the kitchenette being used for the purpose for which it is designed and is also responsible for the cleaning of the room and for any damage.

This service is provided free of charge.

Post

Post is received and issued to all people living at halls of residence. This service is provided by the gatehouses at individual blocks where post is sorted and placed in compartments labelled with room numbers. The gatekeeper will hand over post to a person accommodated following the presentation of a student pass.

Registered consignments are handed over against a signature. If a consignment is for the addressee only, only a notification of the consignment is held at the gatehouse and the student must collect the given consignment in person from the pertinent post office.

This service is provided free of charge.

An erroneous or incomplete address given by the sender is the commonest reason for the non-delivery of post. The forename and surname, the number of the block and the room number must always be given in the address. Should you move to another room (or, of course, to another halls of residence), you should notify everyone sending you post of this fact. After you move, it is a good idea to check the post from time to time at the gatehouse of the block in which you previously lived.

Vacuum cleaner

Vacuum cleaners are available at every gatehouse. You must present a student pass to borrow a vacuum cleaner. If you discover a defect to a vacuum cleaner, report it to the gatehouse.

This service is provided free of charge.

Cleaning products

Students are obliged to keep their rooms clean. Cleaning products are issued at the gatehouse on request for this purpose.

This service is provided free of charge.

Laundry and drying room

Powerful Miele industrial washing machines and tumble driers are available to students (and Primus washing machines and driers in blocks A04 and A05). Keys to the laundry room are available at the gatehouse. The person collecting the key is responsible for the laundry room being used for the purpose for which it is designed and is also responsible for any damage. If you discover any defect to equipment in the laundry room, report it to the gatehouse. The use of the laundry room is subject to the rules of operation of the laundry room which are displayed at the laundry room.

A fee of 60 CZK is charged for each washing cycle and 60 CZK for each drying cycle.

KolejNet

You can connect to the halls of residence computer network (KolejNet), which is administered by the Brno University of Technology Computer and Information Services Centre (CVIS), in all rooms. In addition to an internet connection, you can also use an e-mail account, receive a TV signal at digital quality, share data, use voice and text communication (chat), etc.

A fee is charged for connection to the KolejNet network. You can find complete information on KolejNet here. At least one member of staff from the Computer and Information Services Centre works at each halls of residence as a network administrator. The names of these administrators and their contact details are published on the KolejNet web, at the gatehouse and on the KolejNet noticeboard.

HUB loan

This service is provided if the number of connections to the KolejNet computer network in a room is lower than the number of students accommodated.

A HUB can be borrowed from the manager of B07 at the Purkyně halls of residence following the payment of a returnable deposit of 500 CZK.

No additional charge is made for this service.

Outdoor sports grounds

Sports grounds owned by Brno University of Technology are available to students on sites in the immediate vicinity of halls of residence.

There is a sports ground with a hard surface at the KPPV halls of residence. Nets and balls can be borrowed from gatehouse A04. This service is provided at no charge following presentation of a student pass.

There is a sports ground with an artificial grass surface at the Purkyně halls of residence. A fee is charged for the use of the ground and its operation is subject to rules of operation. Services are provided by the gatehouse in building B06.

Accommodation for student visits

Accommodation may be provided for people visiting students only following the written agreement of all people sharing the room being presented at the gatehouse of the pertinent block. Clean bed linen will be lent to the student for his or her visitor at the gatehouse.

A fee of 99 CZK a night is charged for this service.

Hotel Palacký (the second floor of block A02) provides further possibilities with accommodation of far greater comfort and convenience. The hotel is, however, often fully booked, for which reason it is advisable to reserve a room in advance.
